Célian Hirsch

Célian Hirsch is an attorney-at-law and PhD Candidate. He currently works as a teaching and researching assistant at the Centre for Banking and Financial Law at the University of Geneva.
After his studies in Fribourg, Zurich and Geneva, he was admitted to the Geneva bar in 2018. As a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Geneva Bar Association, he frequently organizes webinars on various legal topics.
He also regularly publishes commentaries on recent case law on banking, contracts, procedure, data protection, and arbitration. Those comments are published on the Centre for Banking and Financial Law website, LawInside, and swissprivacy.

Cyberinsurance Coverage for Ransomware Payments vs US Sanctions Regulations

An insurance company did not have the right to refuse to pay its insured client, a victim of a cyberattack who had made a ransomware payment, even if it claimed that its obligation to reimburse the ransomware payment would expose it to US sanctions.
